Destiny? (Leyton Orient Day)

Destiny?

Candifloss and marshmallows
Don't go so well,
With raisons and pistashios.
Perhaps they arn't meant to be?

Orange juice and cranberry
Don't go so well,
with our tea and coffee.
Perhaps there's a reason indeed?

Love and friendship
Don't go so well,
With enemies and hatred.
Perhaps they don't go so well
Because maybe there is such a thing
as fate or destiny?

  1. Hi Fizzy,

I really enjoyed this poem. I like the gentle questioning of the reader at the end of each stanza which provides the poem with a steady rhythm. I like how words and sounds echo each other in the first stanza - 'marshmallows,' with the 'pistachios' of the next line. Great. You do this again with 'cranberry' and 'coffee' which seem to go together well as words, even if their tastes do not!

In the final stanza you bring together these comparisons that have been made on a bigger and more emotional scale. I think this works well as an ending, though perhaps the final stanza could be clearer so we know why 'enemies and hatred' have been so closely associated with 'Love and friendship.'

I admire the seeming simplicity that this is executed with. Very well done!

    Liz
