We all know life is hard, and sometimes you can be all alone. But there is one thing that everyone has to come to reality with, and thats complication.
Have you heard of the story "The lost Boy"? Well, that's me then. I'm lost. The only thing I have is this grotty old orphanage and that just seems to be going too. I bet you're wandering why I'm stuck here. My life is complicated, but here I am. Bad luck boy they call me. Everything I touch, everything I say, anything I do is jinxed or so I believe.
The dead end to my world started like this.
It was a wednesday. 8 o'clock as I remember, I just finished having beens on toast, then I heard them shout. Was it my fault I had made them lat? Hell no, they were the ones who didn't know what to wear and now they're getting all bothered about my sloppiness! Anyway, I made them late I dont know why I started crying but I did. 9 o'clock, this really wasn't good timing for me.
They rushed out of the door, and before they left me their words, their final words "We are leaving" pained me, I knew what it meant but it pained me in a different way.
Oh gosh. Their...their accident was reported an hour after leaving. It was all my fault, I made them late, I made them want to hurry, I caused their deaths. I didnt know what to think anymore, its like what they said before they went came true. They really left me that day.
Well I think we all know what happens next. There were no realtives even willing to look after me, so they dumped me.
Orvani Street Orphanage. Dead end. This was my stop, at the end of a dark street the orphanage was built. I guess it wasn't that bad, but how they try and make out on T.V that it's haven. It's not, it's anything far from that. It's hell- that's as simple as I can put it.
We wake up, eat breakfast maybe go out and play or just sit and waste our lives until their finished, and then eat lunch again waste time. Sleep. Thats my life so far if not simpler. Five more years of this torture then I'm free. 11 years of age and 7 months in counting.
Oh, birthdays. That's another subject. Mines on August 5th. Summer thats the best time, not really. Not for me it isn't. They say people that are born in the summer laugh alot. I don't, I cry. I guess I should have been born in the winter, or maybe not have even been born!
The days of our births our nothing special, unless getting a cake and a few measly presents form your mates inside the house- which by the way get stuff from your own room and say they bought it for you is special.
Life here isn't really all that special, but at least someone's looking after you. We dont get all the treats the outside kids get. We don't get all the privilliges. We may not have money, or a proper home. We may not even have parents, but we have faith, and people that can help us belive once again. Everyone will come o that stage where they think they are going to fall, but someone is always going to catch them. My life is full of complication.
Life is hard, life can be unfair, it can suprise you and it can devastate you, but there is always one thing that it can make. It can make your life alot more.
Complicated.

Fire

Fire. My body's burning, the heat surrounds my room. Only I survive.
Don't worry I keep saying to myself, but what hope was there? I was going to die. Fire.
Dangerous fire. Why try to survive? Why not just let go? Because I need to. No matter the fire.
But will I survive, what will become of me? No-one has these answers when it matters most. Fire. It can destroy anything! Fire. I can't defeat it, it can defeat me. Fire. Why? Why give death? Fire destroys.
Fire is burning. Now it's my turn. To live. I destroy fire.

Perish
I lie alone. Emptiness surrounds my room. He is gone, and so is my heart. I could never understand why he left me that day, why his words pained me so.It was a different start to the morning, I had longed for a day of peace not an eternity.
Work was rather odd, he not working by my side, sharing jokes bursting with laughter it was happiness alright, but now it has all perished.
His laughter, his smile, his anger all perished and there was nothing I could do about it.
Just me. Alone. Helpless.
Now he is gone forever.

Task 42 Waiting For Something
Waiting For Something
(Carter starts walking along the side walk with Alex, now getting agitated)
Carter: Can we just go now?
Alex: No! We have to wait just a little bit longer.
Carter: (fussing) But we've been waiting for hours, it's no use I'm telling you!
Alex: (getting angry now) You know what you've been moaning the whole time, I just can't take it anymore. [Pause]
Carter: (stuttering) Well, I should never have some with you!
(silence surrounds the whole street, and then both Alex and Carter look at each other)
Alex: (with a sigh) Look I'm sorry, it's just nothing's shown up and I'm really tired.
Carter: (looking down at her bitten nails) Then why don't we just go home?
Alex: I know you want to go, and I know you're tired too, but we I mean I need to do this, and I need your support, because you're my sister. [pause]
Carter: (with a smile on her face) Come here.
(They hug whilst cars clutter around)
Alex: So you going to stay with me?
Carter: (Rolls her eyes and smiles) Always.
Alex: Thanks.
(They get up and walk around the street)
Carter: Well.. this does pass the time.
Alex: Yes, I.. I agree.
(A black Astin Martin sped right through, and dropped a package)
Carter: (looking suspiciously ) Hey! What's that!
Alex: (getting near carter) I.. I would leave it if I were you.
Carter: why?
Alex: You know what.. just let me look, ok.
(Alex gets near the package, clearly enough is written J.LP for AP- which stands for Alex Parkinson)
Carter:
(crowds near Alex suspiciously) Alex.. Alex what's the matter?
(silence)
Alex: (stumbles for words) I.. erm I think it's for me?
Carter: Here let me look. [pause]
Alex: (anxiously waiting) Well?
Carter: It does have your initials, but it might be for some one else?
Alex: (Getting excited) well lets open it, just to check right? I mean it won't do any harm.
Carter: (sighs for a second) Ok but be very prudent.
Alex: ('being very careful') Hold on nothing is in there.
Carter: (puzzled) Wait, are you sure there must be something, surely something?
Alex: (shaking her head in disappointment) Nope, nothing.
Carter: (sits back down on the edge) well, if this is what we were waiting for I got to tell you it was kind of a waste of time.
Alex: (putting her head down in shame) Yeah, your probably right- but?
Carter: (shaking her head in terror) Please no, we've had enough of your crazy ideas!
Alex: (Looking shocked) At least I came up with something!
(silence)
Carter: (looking down at her tummy) I'm hungry. [pause]
(Alex stared at her)
Alex: How could you think of food in a time like this?
Carter: In a time like what?
Alex: You know what? Just for-get- IT. [Pause]
Carter: (In a quiet voice) You know if you hadn't been shouting all this time maybe we might have found something instead of arguing.
Alex: (agreeing) I think I found some spare change in my purse maybe we should just forget the whole day, and finally eat.
Carter: (getting red) You mean to tell me... never mind.
(They walk slowly, with the package in their hands near a fish and chips shop)
Carter: This is so tiring, when is this road going to end?
Alex: (breathing heavily) Just a, just a few more blocks now.
(Just as Carter was going to warn Alex from a crack on the floor, CRASH!)
Carter: Yeah, I..I did try to tell you (giggle)
Alex: (nodding) laugh all you want. (But she started to giggle too)
(And they both walked into the mist of Carlisle Street, not really knowing what they would find.)
(Carter starts walking along the side walk with Alex, now getting agitated)

Blackout (photo 5)

Saturday Morning on Helcrome Street it's 10.45 am, yet strangely enough the sky was filled in enduring blackness I could then feel a sudden quiver underneath my feet this could only mean one thing...
It's been 6 years since the Lone Pine Earthquake hit California, after a few moments of desperation I soon found out that nothing of my family was left except for me, i should have just died along side with my parents it would have been better that way, I wouldn't have to face this world alone knowing no matter how hard I wished they just wouldn't come back, but fate has brought me here It's like starting a new life right from the starting point. I remember I was only ten years old my tender skin turned Ice cold, my tears were beginning to swell up, I remember how they touched to the ground as soon as they were announced dead, I knew from then on it wasn't going to be easy.
Almost immediately I was going to be shipped off to a care home, the only thing that I would take was the poem my parents had written for me :
If you fall we will be there to catch you,
If you are feeling down you'll always have a shoulder to cry on,
But just remember we love you and we always will no matter what.
Suddenly my bad day just turned worse...
Waking up to screams of my name "Josh, Josh! Get down here" was rather a routine now I kept telling myself just a few more years and I would be going my own way, freedom was in my path.
Its a Wednesday just like any other ordinary day for me, instead of heading for school I go seek adventure- though roaming around the neighbourhood isn't exactly and adventure is it?
Skate park. That's what immediately interrupted my mind, I wanted to go to the nearest skate park, so I started walking in a straight direction. This was not as I expected it to be, standing right in the middle with the cool skater dudes mocking me, I couldn't bear it anymore I had to run, runaway from here.
After escaping the borough in which the skate park lied I wished and wished for something that should have happened years ago but didn't, I wished so hard that I thought it was real- but who am I kidding, I would have to fight the desperation of wanting my parents, adulthood is in my reach and I shall not give it away no matter how hurtful it was, this was one my parents wishes.
But the most horrid thing that they would think to be was that I wished for death, death up there with them.

Life and Death
Life
A blooming rose is blowing in the breeze.
The night is old and ending really fast.
The shadows soon appear beneath the trees
And sunshine gleams. With beauty unsurpassed
It shines its light. The morning has begun.
The sun set is as beautiful as you,
None can compare. White as snow like a swan
My love to you is so great and so true.
The rainbow is now full, all colours here
Your smile attracts me in every way
You are my life and so you are my dear
Now my life starts with you right now, today.
The world is a wonderful place, you see
I am here. You and me will always be.
Death
The river weeps of sorrow and bleeds blood,
The sun died and the world is at an end
The whispers in my ear scare me but flood
My brain with wanted information. Dead.
The leaves on the trees turn evil. Dark, black.
No body knowes how it happens. Power,
Takes control on our actions we lack.
Leaves drop dead. Even things like a flower,
Die. Nothing moves, nothing breathes, death is here
Life can no longer exist, without you
My mind is full of hectic thoughts. I fear,
I fear my life has come to an end too.
We all were young once and now we are old
We shall wait for a new light to unfold.

Part One: from Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
This extract intrigued me the most because it uses strong emotion to show what the character is feeling, what he is wearing and describing the way he lives. I think the author used some powerful vocabulary to attract the reader e.g. 'See the child. He is pale and thin, he wears a thin and ragged linen shirt. He stokes the scullery fire. Outside lie dark turned fields with rags of snow and darker woods beyond that harbor yet a few last wolves'. In some parts it’s quite simple, but it gets straight to the point. I like the way the author suddenly gets deep into the story and starts using complex sentences and words to create tension. Another thing which occurred to me was that in the sentence: The mother dead these fourteen years did incubate in her own bosom the creature who would carry her off. The father never speaks her name; the child does not know it. He has a sister in this world that he will not see again. He watches, pale and unwashed. He can neither read nor write and in him broods already a taste for mindless violence. All history present in that visage, the child the father of the man.
I personally think that this paragraph hit me the most, with the emotion of sadness, he wrote: The mother dead these fourteen years did incubate in her own bosom the creature who would carry her off. The father never speaks her name; the child does not know it. I thought this part was quite depressing because, the child didn’t even recognise his mother’s name.
THE END..
It was the night I could never forget. Never will. The daunting moment that ripped my family right apart, but in a way brought me closer to realising that you only have one life, and one chance.
It all began, whilst I and my mother were trying out some new clothes that we had bought- as you know girls do adore shopping. Anyway it was then that I suddenly realised, today I was supposed to meet up with my dad but on second thoughts I rather stay with my mum. All afternoon we messed around, until the door bell rung, I thought it was probably my dad going on and on about me going round his place. No. Completely wrong. Right there and then a drunken man armed with a gun pointing at my mother’s head. Luckily before he could shoot I threw a punch right where it hurts, yes bull’s-eye.
The panic began to fill me, my heart thumping. We looked at each other and just gradually started laughing.
The day drew to an end; the picturesque colours of the sky are still appearing as the sun goes down. Tucked in bed I felt rather stout, yet still frightened. Pitch black in the night, the sound of the creaking had alarmed me, sweat was pouring down my pale white face as I had no idea of what I was about to see.
My mum. She had left a note saying that she was held captive and that I should go to my dad’s and forget about her. Who does she think I am? So I set off following the trail of grubby boots.
Finally I had reached the destination. I took a glimpse of the torture she was set to face- not this time.
Grabbing on to the railings I set of to rescue her, little did they know I was right at the back of them.
Unfortunately, the man in front of me was armed also, and I got caught. The tears dripping from my mum’s rosy cheeks made me wonder if we were going to die.
Since I’m the brain box of the family I’d always have a plan B. Carrying a knife with me isn’t that good but hey at least it will help you in this situation. At first I struggled to get untangled but in the end I released myself. The good thing was that the men were busy smoking, drinking to really care. The shock entered my mum when she felt her hands untangling but when she saw my reassuring face she calmed down.
As soon as we tried to escape a bullet was fired to the ground which startled me, and then out of the smoke came the men pointing the gun now directly at me.
Trapped. It was then that I realised that it was the end for me but surprisingly when he fired the bullet I didn’t feel a thing. In front of my watering eyes lay my mum she took the bullet for me, I knew this was.....

Part one: from End in Tears by Ruth Rendell
I thought this piece of writing was quite mysterious in the manner of the way the story goes and leaving a clue each step but having no idea whatsoever what it is. This extract really involved me to be in it as I could see it all happening e.g. He wrote, ‘Yes?’‘She’s left. You want the number again?’‘I’ve got it. A silver Honda.’‘Right.’‘A silver Honda. Should be along in four minutes.’This actually felt like the reader (I) was talking to him. It also wanted you to keep guessing what will happen next. I was so intrigued to keep reading on but it only was an extract. Overall I think that this piece of crime fiction was really captivating.
Tears of blood.
Prologue
The dwindling light began to fade. I could hear a faint knock at the door. As I began to get up it suddenly smashed open; blinded by the light coming from the wrecked corridor, all I could see was my death at place; a gun pointing at my head, I did not know whether to run or just stand there in shock, yet I felt like it was a dream or more of a nightmare perhaps.
Suddenly a voice spoke, chillingly close: “Do not move”Standing stationary I could see that he was after something that only I would have, but what? I let out a sudden gasp as I felt I knew what he was after. “Where is it?” he murmured as his accent was not that clear.Sweat began to rush down my trembling face, “I don’t know what you’re talking about?”, "listen, don’t play around with me or you’ll face the consequences! I am asking you one last time, where is it?”My eyes were transfixed on his steady gun pointed in the direction of my chest, but before I could defend myself he fired a powerful bullet which went right through me.
The throbbing had injected my whole body; I knew that something went terribly wrong. The last reply I heard from him was “pain is good”. And that was it, my life was over.
The start of the investigation.
An unfamiliar knock at the door had awoken me from my first sleep- as I was up carousing all night at the le Duchon club. Anyway as I slouched to open the door right before my eyes stood a diminutive person holding up his ‘so called detective badge’. “Hello, I am Mr. Johnson and I would like to talk about the distressing news of Lukes' death?"
That was a shock for me, everything was thundering in my head, I was stoned for a blink of an eye. My legs were quivering, I needed to rest my body somewhere, Luke can’t be dead, he just can’t.
All of a sudden I was questioned as I was the suspect.
Just as I was about to slam the door on his grim modest nose, then he showed me a photo.
I was traumatized of what I could see, the image of Luke lying there covered in blood was absolutely ghastly, I couldn’t bear it anymore, and Luke was more of a little brother to me rather than a friend.
To break the sudden silence Mr, Jonson said: “Well it’s my job really; however I do believe you
can help on our further investigation?”
The day drew to an end, yet we still haven’t found the culprit, now I think all hope is lost. Suddenly my mobile rang and quite loudly too, I answered “hello, who is this”. A frightening voice that sounded quite familiar had then replied “I know where you live, and I’m coming to get you”. Almost immediately the phone line went dead.
Hiding under the canvas I trembled with fear, but soon later I recognised who it was and it explained how he was linked to the death of Luke. Just then he came in with a sniper gun holding it firm in his hands, as he examined the room on the left side I took a run for the door and managed escaping without a scratch on my body.
My heart was thumping uncontrollably, but I put that to one side and started to run to the police station. A bunch of tough police officers came fully equipped; I creep along with them to be safe. Smashing open the door we find that the room was deserted, yet a gust of wind filled the room, so I know that he climbed out of the window.
Unfortunately I still haven’t heard from the ‘innocuous’ Mr. Johnson, but I’m still watching my back, who knows he might return….
Tears of blood.

Excerpt 1 The Worst Journey in the World by Apsley Cherry-Gerrard (1922)
I personally think that this excerpt is very effective of it's genre, for the reason that it intrigues the reader in a way which will make her/ him feel that they are apart of the scene. Also, it describes the emotions quite realistically, therefore this excerpt has captivated me the most.
I think that the innovation in literature is quite essential, and in this piece it showed it quite alot. I thought it was quite miraculous!
Deppresion or Anticipation
Well, it was the last day of school, last day of primary- I did not know whether to be filled with Exhilaration or sorrow. Through out our "normal" school day, children were behaving like nothing has happened, although I could see the deep gloominess inside each and everyone of them as I glance around the swarming playground from a near wrecked bench. Gazing at the apparent, azure sky; I wonder if this will be the last time I look up at this angle, I wonder if I would ever see my dearest friends again, I wonder how it will feel to leave and start a advanced education now.
Immediately I snap out of my moment of thoughts, as the penetrating bell had rung. Now nearing to the one hour we have remaining; everyone could feel the deppresion now (even the toughest boys), me and my closest friends squash up on one table whilst the others scatter around the room. One of my best teachers had made things worse emotionally, for the reason that she put on all the assemblies that we had rehearsed together- that really hit me and my friends, and so we began to cry silently. Tears were dripping down my pale white face, like I have been severly ill but I wasn't the only one. Unfortunately we didn't get a glimpse of the boys crying- however they did start to mock us which did liven the end of the day a little.
( It took us approximately twenty minutes to come out and go home, because of all the farwells)
Walking down the road cautiously, hand in hand with my mother; I then realised that we were taking a journey by car to my country- which would take about three complete days. As I entered the cavernous hallway a sudden feeling of anticipation began to commence.
As we all came rushing into the car- my parents then noticed that they had forgotten the car keys, which was quite exasperating for me and my sisters. They got back in time so we were settled (not necessarily), and quite frankly the minute we got into our car we rapidly zoomed off.
Pugnacious and fidgiting at the back, me and my sisters just couldn't get comfortable - It was lucky that we missed being stuck in traffic or things may have gotten treacherous, however we did arrive in france earlier than expected but that didn't stop us from having a lunch break.
Our lunch break wasn't that long, but we did have to linger for quite a prolonged time for toilets....
Germany was one of my preeminent locations, yet what really aggravated me was that it is literally one of the most largest countries, so it would be exceedingly time-consuming.
Finally , we did make it- just not in the time we expected, however a debacle had ensued just as we were entering; the diesel ran out, and therefore we had to push our car to a near petrol station, fortunately we stopped adjecent to the petrol station so triumph in the end.
-note to self: make a list of everything we SHOULD do before leaving, and what we SHOULDN'T forget.
